In 1946, Bob Walker left Chicago for health reasons and followed so many others to the hot and dry climate of Southern Arizona, where he invested in Pioneer Laundry and Dry Cleaners when Drachman Street and First Avenue were the edge of Tucson.

His son, Vernon, began working with his dad while in junior high school and the business thrived. Bob passed away in 1966, at the same time polyester/non-press hit the clothes cleaning industry. But Bob knew the industry was changing, and invested in a drapery cleaning business for his son – Eldon Drapery Cleaners.

In 1974, Pioneer ceased operations and Vernon focused on the drapery business with his son, Robert, and expanded Eldon to carpet and upholstery cleaning. In recent years, we’ve added rug cleaning, including Oriental and Persian rugs, Chinese wool cut pile and Mexican cotton area rugs. We also clean tile surfaces and added a Clean/Green cleaning system that allows us to clean leather items as well as draperies, sensitive rugs and wall hangings.

Now, the business is in its 56th year and third generation.
